jadi kindred, pmpEnglish Business Coach & Founder of Accent Unique Inc. Time is precious. Time is even more precious when you have a deadline to pass your English exam for school or to get that job promotion, or even worse, to be ready for an interview in English. I have worked with hundreds of businesses professionals since 2011 who are running big companies or Directors of large organizations, have children, in a relationship, house to take care of and still go camping on the weekends with friends. How were they able to "unblock" their English in 4 months or less you ask? The answer is…. private English lessons with a flexible schedule! Our accredited teachers are fun and dynamic and ensure classes are focused on the specific needs of the client and their job terms, interests, and level. Schedules are set in the weekly agenda but can be rescheduled with 48-hour advance warning. Some of my clients felt that 2-hour classes would be too long, even impossible online, but soon saw how fast the time went by when the conversations were engaging, pertinent and vibrant. We easily teach private classes for 4 hours a week for even faster results. I read a lot of Tony Robbins books and love his theory on immersion. I quote him, “If you want lasting change…… You have to give up this idea of just trying something, and you have to commit yourself to mastery. That means not just “dabbling,” but fully immersing yourself — much like learning a language not by taking a class occasionally, but actually moving to a country where it is the native language. Because your life is not controlled by what you do some of the time, but by what you do consistently. A coach helps provide that consistency. A coach holds you to a standard, continually measuring your progress and helping guide you in a way that makes sense for your needs and wants. Because it’s all about learning how to break through from where you are to where you want to be.” This is exactly how I perceive our team, a team of English coaches helping you to be accountable with your goals of improving English. You are lucky in Quebec, because you don’t have to move to another country to immerse yourself. You can simply read the English translation on the cereal box in the morning, then turn on the English radio station as you drive to work and come home to watch the evening news in English. You don’t need to take a 4-month leave from work, or family in order to master your goal. You can simply choose a new habit pattern. Every day make the choice to immerse yourself in English and commit to your weekly “accountability” lessons to actually practice and ask questions. Clients often ask me which show to watch or book to read in English. I do have a list of my preferred shows and books that seem like simple English, but that is never what I suggest. What books and TV shows do I suggest you read in English? The shows and books that you actually love in French or the native language you speak. I feel it is super important to watch or read something that interests you. It is even better when you already know the context, so the reading comprehension will be easier. To go to a whole new level…. I also invite my clients to read out loud. It not only helps improve your reading skills, but also your pronunciation. Julia Sandford-Cooke, from the Translation Bureau in her blog post: 5 reasons why reading aloud isn’t just for children wrote that it improved enunciation. She adds, “I have a habit of speaking very quickly, while my husband tends to mumble. Regularly reading a story to someone else (and a critical little person, at that) has made us more aware of how we sound and how to ensure we are understood. We’ve both heard these benefits transfer to our everyday conversations. Our intonation is better, and we’re careful to add tone and emphasis to our voices. When we have to give a speech or presentation, we now know how we can get our message across most effectively. The more you practice saying those difficult words, the more natural and at ease you will be when you need to use them in an actual conversation. You won’t stutter, hesitate, mumble or even blush anymore. You will say those difficult words with confidence, and that is the ultimate goal. Don’t underestimate the power of reading out loud.
